The story of our 5 Champions league wins

#1 (1977) -

  • In the first round, we beat Crusaders F.C 7-0 on aggregate.
  • In the second round, we beat Trabzonspor 3-1 on aggregate.
  • In the quarter finals, we beat Saint-Étienne 3-2 on aggregate.
  • In the semi finals, we beat Zürich 6-1 on aggregate.
  • In the grand final, we beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1, with goals from McDermott, Smith and Neal.

#2 (1978) - 
  • In the first round, we had a bye because we won the previous final.
  • In the second round, we beat Dynamo Dresden 6-3 on aggregate.
  • In the quarter finals, we beat Benfica 6-2 on aggregate.
  • In the semi finals, we beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-2 on aggregate.
  • In the grand finals, we beat Club Brugge 1-0 with a goal from Kenny Dalglish.

#3 (1981) - 
  • In the first round, we beat Oulun Palloseura 11-2 on aggregate.
  • In the second round, we beat Aberdeen 5-0 on aggregate.
  • In the quarter finals, we beat CSKA Sofia 6-1 on aggregate.
  • In the semi finals, we beat Bayern Munich 1-1 on away goals.
  • In the grand final, we beat Real Madrid 1-0 with a goal from Alan Kennedy.


#4 (1984)

  • In the first round, we beat Odense 6-0 on aggregate.
  • In the second round, we beat Athletic Bilbao 1-0 on aggregate.
  • In the quarter finals, we beat Benfica 5-1 on aggregate.
  • In the semi finals, we beat Dinamo Bucureşti 3-1 on aggregate.
  • In the grand final, we beat Roma 4-2 on penalties which were scored by Neal, Souness, Rush, Kennedy and missed by Nicol.


#5 (2005)
  • In the group stage, we qualified for the knockout round with ten points.
  • In the knockout round, we beat Bayer Leverkusen 6-2 on aggregate.
  • In the quarter finals, we beat Juventus 2-1 on aggregate.
  • In the semi finals, we beat Chelsea 1-0 on aggregate.
  • In the grand final, we beat AC Milan 3-2 on penalties which were scored by Hamann, Cissé, Šmicer, and one was missed by Riise.
